From the Montana campaign trail

Well, here it is. The day we've been working for. We'll never know if we were able to sway any of those undecideds we've talked to over the last two months, but we did our best, and in the process learned a lot about ourselves and a whole lot about Barack Obama and his vision and plan for our country. I hope, at the end of the day, or by mid-week, the decision will be made, and he'll be our nominee. I'm looking forward to his debates with McCain. Today we'll do more Get Out the Vote. We have li… Continue

Last night I had one of those moments.

Last night I had one of those moments. One of those moments that while you’re experiencing it, there’s that tiny voice in your head that keeps saying –Wow, Wow, Wow. One of those moments that even while you’re experiencing it, it’s like you’re also watching yourself experience it. I’ve had these moments before – they’re few and far between – probably what makes them so shocked through with energy and immediacy. Skiing through bare aspens on a cold winter day, watching my ski tips, sensing so… Continue

Like Aspen, Jackson turns to subsidized housing to keep local populace.

"This place will turn into Disneyland if we don’t have anybody that actually lives here." Christine Walker, director of the Teton County Housing Authority, which works to provide affordable housing for Jackson workers to keep the Wyoming resort town viable. - Aspen Times

Winter employers now recruiting

Hey everybody
We've had a lot of winter employers come back on the site the last couple weeks to recruit for their upcoming season. Lots of ski resorts, satellite businesses in ski resort towns (most of those offer ski passes too) and some Arizona guest ranches that have a long winter season - October - May. So now's the time to snag your winter job. Get it lined out so you can play s… Continue

Dishwashing around the United States

I was listening to an episode of This American Life today called Road Trip!
One of the stories was about this guy that travels from dishwashing job to dishwashing job on the Greyhound.
He's written a book called: Dishwasher: One Man's Quest to Wash Dishes in All Fifty States
by Pete Jordan
Here's a short excerpt about the book from Amazon:
"
For 12 years, Jordan (aka Dishwasher Pete) tramped about the U.S. washing dishes. Despite a… Continue

Hi Kathi, I've just been thinking about blogging about my first impressions of Basin Harbor. It's varied. But I'm trying to keep in mind that some things are not controllable...like the weather. I have the time set to go kayaking and there's a thunderstorm... A lot of the socialization centers around alcohol, but that's nothing new, seasonal or otherwise. I've taken off 50 pounds since February and still working on another 25-30...I'm viewing alcohol as just empty calories. So at first I was thinking along the lines of not quite fitting in...but I think that's really my choice and everyone else has been pleasant otherwise. I'll get it all worked out in my head and will probably blog about it sometime this weekend. I still have to do the version of Good, Bad and Ugly about the Kay El Bar too. Trying to come up with a fair appraisal, and not coming up with much in the bad category.

Kathi, The message center on my page says it is not working.
I called the PO in Moran and she said that all packages in the last month were sent to Signal Mtn Lodge.

Hi Kathi! Luke and I are staying in Jackson for the summer, Signal didn't work out unfortunatly and we thought about Alaska but with travel costs and the shorter season up there we we're sure if we could swing it financially. And the thought of leaving the Tetons made us both sad! It's funny you contacted me because I was just thinking about you! A friend and I just did a float on the Green River around Moab and the shuttle driver who took us to our put in reminded me of you, her name was Kristy but I kept wanting to call her Kathi... Anyway, we're looking forward to the summer but with all the snow in the mountains it's going to be awhile before we can do anything too high. How have you been?

Hey Kathi - you are absolutely right! I've got a few more payments to make and then *most* of my debt is gone! I love the quote you left. Seems like you've been everywhere! I do have a question for you... if someone like me wants to take a seasonal job at any of these places... is there any way I could bring my cat LOL? I'm sure they probably dont accept pets in the dorms... just curious since you mentioned you have a dog.

Tripp Lake Camp in Poland, Me. Not sure what the counsulars or the instructors get. The good money I'm talking about is in the kitchen. I'll be returning as a baker. They also have a boys camp, not sure of the name. You can write and ask. Go to Tripplakecamp.com Delete Comment

It's not too bad.

Thanks for checking out the photos.
Its the sunnit of South Sister in Oregon, it's not a technical climb but it's physically demanding so if you are ever in OR. give it a shot.
If you are anywhere near Puerto Vallarta just sign up on the website and well bring the organics to your door.
