Hometown:: Cooper Landing, AK summer; Victor, ID winter

About Me:: 49 yo chef with bases in Teton Valley, ID and Cooper Landing, AK. Been ski and trout bumming since '98 after removing myself from a career and wife in Boston, MA. Hiking, biking and waterfun (kayak, canoe, raft) make me happy. Fly fishing, powder skiing and hangin with my wife make me even happier. We have 3 cats that travel with us. I have also lived in Laguna Beach, Napa Valley, Tahoe, Dallas and New Orleans after leaving my birthtown of Middleburg Hts., OH.

Last Seasonal Job:: Sous chef for Trap Bar and Snorkels at Grand Targhee Resort, WY.

Favorite Seasonal Job:: Manager of Summit Deck & Grille at Northstar-at-Tahoe - I had a snow machine to commute to work every day.

Kenai Fishing Report

Check this out...

I am at the head of the world famous Kenai River for the summer. I will be updating fishing conditions here as I see them. Most of it subjective, but I check the wier counts on the Kenai River and Kasiloff River for sockeye and King counts on a regular basis.

My creds come from fishing this area nearly every summer from May into October since 2001 and being directly involved in the guiding business as chef for Red Salmon Lodge in Cooper Landing. Here are a couple of examples of what we will be talking about...

May 8, 2008
Not much happening right now. Deep Creek marine is open for feeders and some steelies. Upper River closed until June 9th. Bait on the Kasiloff next week.

Snow Alert FRI 12/21

Yeah, buddy! Don't know the reported inches yet, but its a good one. I had to blow my driveway twice today! Probably 12" total with a bit more on the way.

Christmas Crunch

Here it is, the third week in December at a ski resort. If you don't have your staff together and humming the same tune by this time, you are setting yourself up for a tough holiday high season. I thought I did until yesterday when one of my key cooks blew out his knee on the slope and I had a no-show on one of my PM dishwashers.

Back to Winter Camp

Carol and I returned to Camp Teton for the winter season the third week of October. Always good to return, but there is always alot of work. Trying to squeeze a summer's worth of yardwork in before the ground freezes is tough. The bitch is that we never really get to see the results. We leave just when the crocuses are blooming and the daffodils and tulips are in good foliage, but without flower. And when we get back, the leaves have just fallen or are about to be. Plans changed. Karen, who was supposed to drive to WY, was very inconsistent when we were trying to plan the trip, and I thought it best to book a flight instead to avoid being stranded at the last minute w/ no transportation.

I fly to SLC Friday night and have a bus commute to Jackson later that day. HR is supposed to pick me up in Jackson that evening.

Thanx for the snow reports. I love it.

I'm up in Gardiner, at the North entrance to Yellowstone so I'm kind of local. We were visiting friends over at Moose and had to check out Targhee. Cool Works has worked with Targhee since our early days and my first trip to Targhee predates Cool Works by a lot of years. It's always been on the regional list. We had great spring day there a couple of years ago, skinning up and skiing down in May.

We hope to make it down another time or two this winter. I'll give you a heads up if that pans out. It'd be great to meet you.

I spent the weekend on Fred's Mountain and in the Trap Bar and at Snorkels. Skied Teton Pass and saw friends in Jackson and Victor too. The Teton Valley is growing fast. The Targhee snow is still good.
